Having the Last Word Christopher W. Thomas (tristram@erols.com) dnb-as1s21.erols.com Mon, April 21, 1997 at 9:9PM |
Have you ever noticed? ... some
Can't ever leave until they've said
The last word - for they're done
Only when they can be sure it's made
And they then keep going back and forth
Always looking to be the one who spoke last
And then as they banter - you make score
Trying to see if you can be the one who asked
The final question as they went out the door
And as they leave and it closes once more
Then that gives you feelings quite poor
For you brought it upon yourself - sore
And the downer sets in on you yet again
For the chat was ended and you feel pain
As if it was your fault they went and left
And this has made you feel so very bereft
And the words you were writing no more count
For they're gone and will never see them amount
To anything more than the last thought on a line
Which you did write as you saw them become blind
And now you have a hard decision to make
For they have gone and no longer partake
So shall you backspace and delete the streak
Or will you hit [Enter] and watch them speak?
