Hitting Upon Others Christopher W. Thomas (tristram@erols.com) dnb-as1s71.erols.com Mon, April 21, 1997 at 5:56PM |
Many people do come and go
On chat-lines as they sow
Their seeds within the ground
They walk upon as they get around
Some have special reasons to be
Spending so much of their time free
Engaged in endless hours of banter
Which they do without any mantra
But most of those who come to stay
Are there because they do pray
They will find another who wants
The things they offer in haunts
Which brim over with better qualities
Some do see through all the trees
And then when they connect at last
They will be so much wiser than past
And to do so - they/we must be willing
To accept the hits upon us, thrilling
For only once we do this together
Can we save wearing holes in leather
And then once we've seen to matters of mind
Only then - does it make sense to be unblind
And make that next step which connects us
For then we will have the warmth ... plus
We will have gotten around the muddle
Which singles do get into as they huddle
In places where drinking warps views
And causes us to know and to choose
People with whom we have little in common
Just because they're there and do summon
Us with words, beckoning or body language
And then we get hooked in a tight sandwich
From which sometimes it is hard to extricate
For we've gone beyond safety which is the plate
Upon which is served all these chat connections
Which provide us with insight and protection.
