As life turns, we get involved deeper and deeper

And as we do, the price becomes just a little steeper
For people talk, and people play - their little games
And some do play along, but others tend to see no gain

So they move away and start climbing up other hills
So they can retain their sanity, and thus learn still
There is very few people out there, of all the ones
Who tend to stick by your side, no matter what comes

But those who do, and believe in you - no matter what
Are true friends indeed, and will never get as hot
As those who rush around carrying their little banners
And who try to pretend they're much better planners

When all they are is very small people who see not ideals
For they are so much into getting back - in order to feel
Better for having taken a stand, and thus they can be
Standing on top of shoulders, looking down so pleased

Those who shy away from these games are better equipped
To grow inside, for they have so much more to give
And remember well the old adage which inspired them
To deal only with vision, and not with little men.

- Tristram
