Where is all the warmth which pervaded morns of earlier times

When we awoke to find summer weather edging out frosty lines
And we wondered what happened to those ever icy cold numbings
Which were so bitter we were hesitant to even use plumbing ...

Now those anxious moments have here arrived in full force
But it has happened after we have welcomed June, of course
And now we are being asked to embrace an unwelcome coldness
Which prompts us to question whether it's weather or oldness

Which makes us pause in our evolution of the latest pursuits
For we are stumped by recent happenings which made us loose
And, in spite of giving ourselves over completely to it all
Now we are alone again, and the cold morning makes us crawl

And we wonder whether it is better to have loved and lost
Or - whether it would've been better had we not loved at all ...
