When a man is charged with superhuman passion

Which has not been his within recent fashion
He has to stand back and look at it afresh
And gauge the mumbling uttered under breath

Are the spoken words his and his alone ... ?
Or are they reciprocal and voiced in like tone?
Are they just ripples which float on tide crest?
Or are they full surfs ready to cave in his chest?

Where is it written - this love-thing defined ... ?
Is it clearly engraved or is it something refined?
When do we know when this feeling fills the air?
Is it sitting up ready to be grasped in the 'sphere?

Who is to know when that big "L" word even exists?
Is it just because we say it well within our trysts?
Or is it there under the surface waiting to be peeled
As we uncover the very top layer and thus is revealed

Budding flowers blossoming and opening up their arms
Welcoming the sun's rays which are piercingly warm
And when we do the same are we welcoming the light
Or is it just because the warmth makes us feel bright?

We talk about parting over principles and others such
And yet - when it comes down to it - neither does much
To set those gears turning in directions which lever
Us into a momentum, and shortly after - another fever

Takes us onto higher plateaus which are the next step
On the road to tighter bindings which give us more pep
And plans we've made take an even greater back seat
As the person we were now herds in like a lost sheep

And tears fill eyes with hot moisture amidst kisses
As the guesswork is put aside in favor of no misses
For the torrid blazing fire which was ours now subsides
And the recurring theme becomes a stay for the full ride

For love which was ours for the moment extended our song
And the realization comes to us we had it there all along
If this be the case, then nothing can take us from grace
For love conquers all adversity, and freedom gives us face.
