In days of quite recent past

We've had priorities of task
Which have taken us away from
Usual haunts and related mayhem

In the process we've become tired
Perhaps fatigued is a better hired
Word - to describe all the wearing
Upon brain cells only just clearing

After days of constant reworking
To try and find substance perking
Under layers of words which picture
Beautiful images and lively gestures

And then we do resume communication
On roads which sometimes bring elation
And then do lose consciousness as all
That fatigue we feel does make us small

And then attacks you make the next day
Do wear me down as you quietly then say
"Why did you ignore me for quite so long?
Just as I thought we were so getting along"

And I explain to you my hard work caught up
With me in a swift way as I tried to be tough
But no matter what - I could not keep eyes open
As the Sandman took me to another place roped in

And those tools I used to connect me with you
Fell onto floor and chair as they broke thru
The holds I made on them in my altered state
And so I lost track of you and could not relate

Explanations which came through upon the next day
Were lost as you drummed out rhythms which played
Repetitive tunes as you missed them and parlayed
Interpretations which were better left displayed

In short books which tout the pain of self-abuse
As they purport to deal with matters of greater use
Then as I did pick up on the warped tune you sang
Eventually it got through - thus bells then rang

Finally - you did understand all I stated so well
And then colors changed in windows which jelled
And you then saw the Spring's bloom as you softened
Finally singing a new tune called Forgiven & Forgotten.
