Understanding Compassion Christopher W. Thomas (tristram@erols.com) dnb-as1s60.erols.com Fri, April 25, 1997 at 10:1AM |
All of us have, at one time or other
Wanted to cry out, and be smothered
In turn with an understanding heart
Who has given us a much greater part
Of themselves, as they do provide
A place within them where we can hide
Avidly, using their shoulder to cry on
As we place faith and trust we do long
To give to someone out there who deserves
That complete willingness of us to preserve
The inner sanctum which we all do possess
As we share ourselves, and are blessed
With wonderful, warm compassionate beings
Who have taken the time necessary to see 'em
Those ripples in our armor which has rusted
For we put faith in one we should not have trusted
And then we do scurry along with head in a veil
For we allowed good feelings to be lost in a trail
Of deception, which was underlying the exchanges
And then we discovered people who were strangers
It is hard to know who out there we can trust
With the depth of our soul which is laced in lust
But we can simplify things just a wee small bit
By separating out the good in others by giving it
The time it needs to understand and comprehend
There are certain people who have a good blend
Of comforting warmth, mixed in with their passion
Which only comes to the surface when no tension
Is offered by strange and really childish personnas
Who have a way of getting under nerves as long as
They are allowed to circle these corridors freely
And do then pester people with their screaming
Of obscenities and other rudeness they use to jibe
At people who do not deserve this wrenching inside
Where it comes from is a really interesting question
For it is reflective of other matters without mention
It would be nice to reach out to all those who hurt
To try and resolve their difficulties & get at the dirt
Which runs so deeply under their skin and fingernails
And thus keep them all from hurting or getting into jail
Someday it would be wonderful to figure out how to do this
But for now - perhaps it would be better just to compress
These ideas into a more simple form of communication
One which says - "I'm here for you - but please listen
To the compassionate thoughts I can bestow upon you
If you will give me your time, and trust in one who
Has much to say about small matters of the heart
For I've been there and know how it can smart."
If you do this and reach out in this very way
You will become so much better on that day
For you've given of yourself in full abandon
Of those things which bind you and did sadden
And having done so - you may now take delight
In knowing there are a few who are quite bright
And understand well the confusion you suffer
For they are experienced and thus do proffer
Their wisdom gained through many, many years
Of smiles and gladness mixed in with a few tears
And thus - this combination of extreme elements
Does give them much with which they can compliment
Your position - and by so doing - you will see
They can offer you so much more than a cup of tea
For they will see what it is which makes you tick
And thus they can provide you with their own magic.
