The dog perks up her ears

As the sound of rain tears
Drop quietly upon metal case
Enclosing air conditioner's space

It is an incessant pitter-patter...
But what on earth does it really matter?
It's just another sound, like the tick-tock
Of one of those great big grandfather clocks

The ones that swing pendulums back and forth
And then chime like Big Ben on the hour caught
Far rather have the quieter sound of raindrops ...
For they're not as likely to make me want to stop.
