In school, we learned from our chemistry classes, why things happen

But, in later life, we learn chemistry is emotions lapping
At the souls of our feet, and at the corners of our minds
As events conspire, sometimes - making us really quite blind

The good chemistry makes us forget the practical kind
Then, when we remember - we start looking for the right bind
When it's found lacking, we feel we must open up the jug
Perhaps ... so to deal with our desire to not pull the plug

But, sometimes, it is so much easier to just walk away
Than to try and sort things out - reaching for a much brighter day
For when we just add two and two together hoping thus to make four ....
We realize it really isn't that at all - it's a whole lot more ...
