Came to the bottom of lane this morning

Saw something which surely left me daunting
Cars flashed by, going both uphill and down
A veritable freeway was causing frowns

On these winding back roads, thirty is plenty
Yet, some seemed to be going seventy ...
Probably not ... but the rush sure was fast
At least ... the dog was occupied with task

For had she been bounding about at all
She would have become a cropper this Fall
For this lovely quiet backwoods country lane
Had suddenly adopted a freeway's pain
