'Twas too dark in the park to keep track of dog

So, finally, did that dozen laps - (some with a jog)
... Whilst she was tied by leash to the corner of the fence
Causing her to bark for two thirds of each one, hence ...

The name of this verse - a wee bit catchy, but accurate
Stating the very obvious, and a play on the sky's state
Now - on to the real genuine task of this quite little ditty
Which is to explain why it's even more apt and fitting

When she wandered, she was silent, but lost against darkness
So I'd decided to make her and the fence become partners ...
And each time I lapped back around to where she was attached
The bark stopped, whilst she wagged her tail and took steps back

... To lessen the tautness of the leash so I could undo her from post
And then when she realized I was only passing again - she did gloat
Retaking her tense stand and resuming her quite loud and sharp bark ...
As soon as I got far enough away - she could no longer see me in the dark

Ten times more ... she went through this piercing song and dance ...
As I continued my laps and tried not to lose count or fade into a trance
... Which sometimes happens when one does the same thing twelve times
For you lose track of where you are - or the total loops around, in your mind!

- Tristram
