I had to pull off the road earlier on today
For the very first time since a car strayed ...
Squeezing thru a gap in the fast lane it made
On the L.I.E. almost three years ago come May
The rain today came splashing down in torrents
Causing a loss of road contact - a feeling abhorrent
Prior, it'd seemed like a neat, cosy ride thru a waterfall
Until the dual-wheel hydroplaning made me lose my cool
At which point, I made my way over to the soft-shoulder
Pulling way on over to the grass - stopping near a boulder
Turning off the engine, then sitting tight for a short while
Gazing quietly at rain splashing down, blinding the miles
Knowing full well I'd have had no control over the front wheels
If I'd suddenly had to swerve to avoid a mishap or a car keeled
I just sat on my hands and thanked God for overseeing my life ...
And then patted my own back for having the sense to see HIS light
For this was the first and only time I recognized my own limitations
Many times in the past - the "challenge" had overcome this visitation
And so - I went on, tweaking every last tinge of charged energy ...
But today, the situation became so much bigger - than just - "me" ...
