Loving demands so much from our souls
As we deal with it daily, we grow quite old
When something which starts out so very clear
Becomes a noose around your neck which sears
Then it is time to back away and collect thoughts
Because nobody in love needs to feel they "ought"
To do this, that, or the other - so many things from
Which we need to hide under cover, and be done
And away from those many emotions which drain us
And rob us of so much goodness - which was a plus
Emotional blackmail takes us to the very utmost limit
And then we curse the very people who got us in it
How DO we define love? ...
Is it from the skies above?
We need someone in our lives - that is for sure
But when they tug us out away from our pure
Wants, needs and desires ... then how are we
To react to this dilemma ... which mercilessly
Pulls us so very far away from the simple wanton act
Which expresses our love in terms of lust given back
A pure and complete and totally uninhibited giving
Of our very selves - which so turned each other on
in the beginning
How do we define love?
Does it really fit like a glove?
Is there an outline for clarifying where we stand
Or is it simply something we do both understand
And if it isn't - and one of us needs to explain
Then surely - that is simply an infliction of pain
Insecurities abound on both sides of intercourse
For when we're apart so long, there is discourse
Rather than a healthy exchange of live passion
Something which never ever goes out of fashion
How do we define love?
Is it something we shove?
True Love knows no bounds, it is actually priceless
And assumptions can be made there'll be no test
Yet, when it happens, we backtrack to survey the scene
And try to figure out just exactly where we've been
Sharing emotions stirred in heads, bodies and hearts
Is not something we learn overnight by the yard
It comes with time in which we earn another's trust
A complete sharing not only of heart and mind, but
A willingness to involve ourselves totally in lives
We choose to share openly and honestly to thrive
And deal with day-to-day emotes which consume
Our minds, bodies, hearts, and souls as we tune
In to each other and make long-term plans to be
Part of each other, no matter where - and free
To tell each other things without recrimination
Something so very necessary for unification
How do we define love?
Is it truly in our blood?
When we tell each other eye-to-eye - "I love you"
Is it something we truly feel deep down to our shoes?
Is the feeling something which totally overwhelms us?
Or is it calculated to improve intensity of passion just?
Knowing the answers to this so incomplete puzzle
Is something so few of us really know without tussle
Those who do know and are sure of this phenomenon
Are truly blessed to be, and will - no doubt, go on and on
