Understanding possession is an imposition

But once mastered, it's an easy transition
All nouns (words which define objects)
Use an apostrophe to show ownership

Whilst pronouns (words used for live beings)
All have their own possessive versions to mean
... Ownership, of this thing or, even - that ...
Using them correctly supplies all of the facts

"I" works out to be "my" or sometimes "mine"
"You" becomes "your" - or "yours" is also fine
"We" transforms into "our" or sometimes "ours"
And "they" just turns out to be "their" or "theirs"

"He" has "his" ... whilst "she" has "hers"
Notice no contractions are needed to infer
For all pronouns have their own possessive forms
Including "its" which is always that way born ...

When used with an apostrophe it becomes a contraction
Meaning "it is" ... as all the pronouns have, in a fashion
"He's" ... meaning "he is" ... and "she's" meaning "she is"
In the same way - "it's" means "it is" ... (most miss this)

So do use apostrophes to show possession for things ...
But when referring to people - we all have better rings
... When the proper pronoun's used to define our possession
Just choose one from the above ... to stay true and mesh 'em
