So many things we think, say, and do

Come from spontaneous reactions to -

Assumptions made about this and that

Without really getting all of the facts



When the carpet's pulled back to clean

One consistently sees where we've been

For underneath is all the dirt we've missed

Covered over ... kept out of sight, under it



All we need do is get down to it and mop up

All of the debris and dust, that's gotten stuck

Because we've been in a single mode all along

Going on with our lives, and singing our song ...
