Coming past neighbor's yard

Something struck me hard ...
He'd turned over part of path
Leading from road near garage

And had seeded and fertilized
Then fenced around his prize
A five foot brown-grey patch
And secured by a tidy latch

Just in time for rain to come
To contribute to growth some
And in a not too short while ...
There'll be grass to make smile

All the work thus'll be rewarded
As green comes in so guarded
From premature wearing-down
Of careless souls to make frown
