Awards of much merit
As folks grin and bear it
When others win the cake
And those who didn't, take
With them, away from fray
Thoughts of another day
When their turn will come
And they won't be so glum
For real value is built upon
Thru deeds amidst throng
As those which don't serve
Will be replaced with verve
By later accomplishments
Secured in the cement ...
And then there's no lament
Over past energies spent
