Connecting with others whom you feel you can trust

Is a game of chance, but ... invaluable, as we must
All have someone we can tell all our troubles to ...
For doing it very often lifts our hearts to lessen blue

And feeling comfortable with one person one can call friend
Is an impassioned objective which'll stay with us till the end
For having folks in your life who you feel you can trust well
Is something extremely comforting, but not an idea to sell

For folks tend to make their own judgments based on their view
Which can be colored from what they see, or have heard, too ...
And some may walk away, for those colors have multiple hues
So they leave you holding an empty tray - quivering in shoes

And you wonder whether it is you who have done things wrong
Or is it just that they hear a different tune - an alternative song
As you strain to hear the melody drifting on whisps of stale air
And stand there gawking, scratching head, and roughing hair

For the baring of the soul is such an extremely personal thing
And doing it must be something comfortable, to make bells ring
The trick is to hear the peal of them in the distance of your mind
And once you do - not another soul - should be able to make you blind

- Tristram
