Walking around the corner of block
Saw a sight which gave quite a shock
Masses of apples had fallen from limbs
Yellow ones, red ones, and a few green
So walked onto lawn of the empty house
Bent down to gather them quiet as a mouse
Filling coat pockets with all they could hold
Hurrying before bugs could start on them bold
Finally filled both pockets to brim-over state
Preventing more bending over as the weight
And bulges made it impossible to then bend
So crouches had to be made until the end
Gathering the rest up in arms overflowing
Dropping some back onto grass and showing
There was only so many apples one could hold
For after a dozen, had to balance them in folds
Of coat arms, and in-between chin and arms
So many of them all over - was almost alarmed
By the idea there could be so many for the gather
But there they all were - and now they're a matter
Of what to do with them all before they go bad
Perhaps make apple pies and sauce to make glad
Friends who might drop by to share in the windfall
Possibly to delight in the delicacies and share all ...
