A Ford and a Lincoln

Today is the day when we celebrate a fine president
Who revolutionized a country with a new precedent
Stating it was against the laws of country and humanity
To enslave others and keep them bound and thus unfree

To do whatever they wanted to survive in a land of plenty
So he decreed they had the right to seek their own destiny
Causing the country to come apart into sections of three
Those who supported his stand, forming the Union free

Whilst others who held onto the notion slavery just had to be
Formed the much greater mass known as the Confederacy
And the third part was formed loosely in the West by those
Who tended to have no stand, making them numb to throws

Of barbs from people of both sides, so they stayed neutral
As two halves of the country fought battles in states central
To the east coast - Georgia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland
Both sides fighting for the principles upon which they stand

And four years later, after the whole thing was practically over
A crazed Confederate actor at Ford's Theatre came out of cover
Shooting to death a fine president who had just wanted the best
- Equality for all - regardless of the color with which blessed ...
