A Bare Trunk
On the way around the block this morn
Noticed a sight to dazzle eyes in the dawn
A tree trunk stretching right up to the clouds
Was bare of all its bark - don't know quite how
Not the usual apparition from ground to tip
But a main trunk which was fully alive to hip
But where it branched out with complete limbs
The main trunk continued upward, bare - it seemed
And then it just fizzled it out into a fork-like tine
With no more branches feeding off, after the line
How such a strange growth pattern could come to be
Is uniquely puzzling, and something way beyond me
