A Solitary Chap

Living alone is something it takes a while to get used to
When most of life's been shared with friends or lovers who
Understood completely what it meant to live life together
Sharing fully all the goodness of going hand-in-hand forever

But now things have changed, and no longer do I find myself
Sharing life so completely, for I now I find I sit upon a shelf
Where past relationships have put me, perched on the very top
Looking down below at the muddle which accumulated non-stop

But, perhaps - living such an extraordinary and solitary existence
Has become something quite usual, and even though I'm insistent
I'd like to share it with another who loves me and wants to be part
I'll not break down doors to do it anymore, for it's just too hard ...
