It's so very easy to say you love another

But the proof's in the pudding uncovered
When you tell someone the door's open
And they ignore it, going elsewhere, hoping

There's a larger treasure hidden somewhere else
Then the love they espouse rings somewhat false
And so you then re-evaluate the things declared
In letters you've received which make you stare

For the only proof of love is not wanting to be apart
As this states quite fully you are really a head-start
Upon a shared life filled with beauty and charm
Something really wonderful, and without harm

Until you come apart, and that vision is no longer
For when it happens, it takes a while to get stronger
As all of those good feelings have turned into mush
Then you tremble so, as your heart-strings are hushed
