Pieces of glass to clean up everywhere

From the ceiling to floor and over chairs
Where the skylight high up the kitchen wall
Suddenly caved in, waking me up with it all

Almost an hour I've been slaving in there
Picking up huge pieces of glass with care
Then, vacuuming off shards and splinters
Finally wiping down cabinets with fingers

Carefully trying to protect self from nasty cuts
Which happen all too readily when one picks up
And standing on top of chair and then on counter
Got me within kissing distance of ceiling so mounted

So this title hit me and started buzzing through my brain
Making it clear to me I had to use it in order to give gain
To the idea there are other things words can be about
Other than the ones you think they are, when given clout
