Remembering the Match
When life evolves on another plateau
It does so because we chose to show
Another side of ourselves to one who
Appealed to us because we were due
To involve ourselves in a life brighter
Than the one in which we were sighted
And something appealed to us in words
- Thoughts which we had not yet heard
And so we anxiously followed it up
Tasting something wondrous in a cup
Which brimmed over with heat and taste
We were so bowled over, we did haste
To make our clear presence known
For we wanted no longer to be alone
To have our beauty under wraps hidden
Where we had been since last smitten
Camouflaging the desire raging within
Under veils which hung with hairpins
Pretending to ourself it wasn't there
Yet, knowing well, we needed to share
And then - the match was placed to fire
As we stoked it - and fueled the pyre
The embers glistened so in our eyes
We lost ourselves and said goodbye
To our previous lone existence
As our bodies became insistent
On merging together with minds
Which tolled bells of another kind
And so we showed our willingness
To be in the arms of the one blessed
Because we saw the good rage within
And as we did, our skins became thin
For we had seen quite a beauty there
A mind which had inflamed our care
And so we chose to become immersed
In a life which was totally unrehearsed
And then other things came into play
Making us forget why we came to stay
And so we backed off away from the flames
For they burned so - we were in some pain
And in the process, we chose to ignore
The yearning which'd caused us to implore
The mind of another who had great stores
Of love, affection, passion - and so very
much more ...
