So many things do affect what we say and what we do
Some fill us with broad smiles whilst others make us blue
Where emotions really do come from is anyone's guess
Poets speak of the source of them as the heart blessed
And others refer to emotions being involved with spirit
But I tend to think that is more theology which moves it
Others reference the soul - something quite unreal again
For it cannot move us out of the path of a speeding train
All emotions actually do originate in our head - the brain
Where we conjure up all of our feelings in storm and rain
And some of them we use to build stone walls all around us
So we cannot really feel pain any greater than stored - just
Show the shell which we have formed with brain motion
In order to steel ourselves from the hurt of others' potions
There is no heart, soul or spirit which forms all of these
Only the mind - which is sometimes waving in the breeze
How it can thus build such solid stone walls to fence us in
Is something which confuses me no end for it's not at all thin
And yet we continue dealing with walls made from grey matter
Which are tinged with pain started from places where've spattered
Touches of these other things which we have readily encapsulized
Just because we have chosen not to talk them out - quite a surprise
The very best stone wall remover which I know does readily exist
Is the one which starts with the long conversation, you've missed ...
