IN the SANDS of TIME

In the sands of time ...
We've begun a climb
Up the steps of our history
Into another century ...

Our communal future begins
Connected to two thousand pins
A number we have designated ...
By counting the years since we stated ...

The Son of God was that day born
In a manger - during a storm ...
Visited by three Eastern kings
Bearing incense and other things

Marking a point from which we now count
Time ... proceeding from this very fount
And now, as we begin the next thousand
Amidst all the cheers and rabble-rousing ...

We must bear in mind the faith we have stored
Which has decreed the years from there to fore
... The tenets of that faith abound in our lives
No matter how much strife undermines our pride ...

And - as we begin the new century ahead ...
We do need to remember that faith in good stead
For our lives are ours to control - thru all our years
So, whatever good we do - rides on our own cheers ...

- Tristram
