Five Years Later

On this very date in nineteen hundred eighteen
The Treaty of Versailles was signed by the three
... Major powers, which then made up the Allies
France, Great Britain and America were the guys

Namely - President Woodrow Wilson of the USA
Prime Minister Lloyd George was Britain's play
And Premier Georges Clemenceau of France
Who engineered the peace treaty, in advance

After which, the three dignitaries marched together
Out of the Hall of Mirrors and into the summer weather
As flowers were thrown over them and their car
Signifying the peace to come, amidst the rapture

A peace that would last for only twenty more years
For some were dissatisfied with the terms so clear
Including countries who are now once again embattled
For the Treaty of Versailles has been twice since - rattled ...

- Tristram
