Out of My League

On this day in nineteen hundred and forty-five
Delegates of fifty world nations agreed to sign
A new charter of United Nations in San Francisco
One they had worked on for two months, slow

Putting together one hundred and eleven articles
Affirming their willingness to prevent war's start again
Which the previous League of Nations had failed to do
After the conflicts of World War One started anew ...

It then became effective after Japan surrendered
On October twenty-fourth, when ratified by members
And then was initiated at Lake Success, New York
The following year, before property was bought

... Bordering the East River of Manhattan Island ...
A complex, enormous, erected high and grand
Completed in nineteen fifty-two, composed of four
The General Assembly Hall, the Library, and more

There are two separate buildings on either side
Including Conference and Secretariat ones, allied
And housing - Councils, which meet to discuss all
... Of the problems combined nations might befall ...

- Tristram
