Burning the Flag

Protest has taken many turns thru the years
Some has been good, and some created tears
Like the National Guard killing of four students at Ohio State
And the mowing down of Chinese kids at Tiannamen wasn't great

Those protests led to really awful consequences
But the burning of the flag is not in the least offensive
And yet, some turned on those who did
Attempting to make a big scene out of it

Perhaps, the altruistic sense of shock
Is greater than our own need to unlock
Feelings of revulsion at this rather despicable act
Which is now covered under the First Amendment's tact ...

In 1989 - the Supreme Court ruled
flag-burning is protected by the
First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
