Anthony, Earhart, Ride



Three women have made history upon this date

Each of them accomplishing unique things, great

Starting with Susan B. Anthony - the suffragette

Who was fined for attempting to cast votes to get



Her opinion heard ... a posture to which she felt

She had quite as much right as everybody else 

But the attempt was met with a hundred buck fine

Imposed upon her on this very date - at a time ...



When women were still denied the right to vote

Back in eighteen seventy three ... a time, cloaked

When equality for all was still decried and denounced

Before Susan B. Anthony (and others) announced



Like Amelia Earhart, the famed woman aviator

Completing her trip between two shores, elated

From Newfoundland to Wales - upon this date 

A fantastic feat, done in nineteen twenty-eight



And Sally K. Ride - America's first woman in space

Who also made history on this date with certain grace

When she and four of her colleagues blasted off ...

Aboard the shuttle Challenger, another feat, boss



Carried out on this very day in nineteen eighty three

Which makes June eighteenth a special day in history

For three women have made important inroads today

Changing the scene - each, in a very special way ....
