In the Hay-Day

On this date in eighteen hundred and nine
Franz Joseph Haydn simply ran out of time
After having composed symphonies galore
Sonatas, piano trios, quartets by the score

Along with operas, masses and oratorios
(The man's composing talent never froze)
By the time Haydn died at seventy-seven ...
He was quite wealthy, on his trip to heaven

- Tristram
