Lay, Ladies, Lay ....

Today's a special day for a few special ladies
Along with a singer/songwriter who, just maybe
... One of the most important of this generation
Who many flocked to see, all thru the nation

Bob Dylan is the man who gets to cut the cake
The singer and songwriter who chose to make
... The transition from string guitars to electric ...
A change many felt was quite perplexing ...

But shortly afterwards, he released Lay, Lady, Lay
A return to the folk guitar style which made his day
But then the electric once again took over his style
And now, we no longer seem to care (a ceased trial)

The ladies with whom Dylan shares his special day
Include Kristin Scott Thomas - the one who played
The love interest in one of the best films of late ...
The English Patient ... which won the Oscar (fate!)

And two singers: Patti LaBelle and Rosanne Cash
As well as Priscilla Presley (Rock's King's ex-stash)
And then, there are some men also having cake ...
Tommy Chong, who, with Cheech, made our sides ache ...

Gary Burghoff ... the Radar in the series M*A*S*H
Who had funny lines whilst making a mad dash ...
And Alfred Molina - another actor who's been around
As well as Gene Anthony Ray - whose dances bound

And then there's a couple of rock musicians, too
Who also join Dylan, celebrating birthday blues
Which ... they really are, no matter what the age ...
For each new one arriving, completes another stage
