Closed Worlds

So many folks rushing about in their own worlds
Their voices clattering ... but their are eyes closed
For they see only the things they want to see ...
Missing magical opportunities, lost in their trees

Driving, they are closed within a confined space
Gardening, they are immersed in their own grace
Walking with their dogs, they defend their tracks
Working on their cars, they lie flat on their backs

Writing letters on their pc systems - they focus on
Only things they want to, overlooking others strong
Writing the very same questions again and again ...
When answers were already at hand, all the same

Worlds wrapped up in their emotional vacuums ...
Walls papered with flowers to brighten their rooms
But ... outside, where real flowers grow and bloom
Their worlds are closed, for the hearts have no room

- Tristram
