Together, Wherever We Go

On this day, in nineteen hundred fifty-nine
A musical written by Sondheim and Styne
Opened for the first time on Broadway ...
About a stripper who'd come a long way

With some wonderful songs we all know
Including Together, Wherever We Go ...
Which was left out of the film in sixty-two
(One of those cuts to make a better brew)

But left in were Small World - a big hit ...
(Johnny Mathis would win big with it)
and Everything's Coming Up Roses ...
(An optimistic song, one supposes ...)

And perhaps the best known from the show
For it identified the star from the tip to the toes
Let Me Entertain You was its biggest number
And would make Gypsy - memorable thunder

- Tristram
