Remembering back some thirty or so years

When life was full of promise and so few tears
As pictures of the two of us dancing in the sea
Fills my mind with wonder, then it was you & me

And we were so young and filled with much love
For each other, as we played about under sun above
Splashing each other in the quite early morning light
And then play-wrestling as we became one, so bright

As salt-water lapped at us from behind both our backs
And the complete merge we made of bodies did lack
For no matter how hard we tried to keep as one in waves
The sea kept washing over us, pushing us apart, so brave

Were we, to think the act could be quite so easily done
In water which eased between us - making us not one
But two lively souls reaching out to each other to hold
The beauty which was ours - as we tried to be so bold

So then, we gave up finally and ran into bungalow
And there - upon bed - ravaging each other below
The window which looked out onto the cobbled road
Until you told me to stop, for a face peered in at the show

And so I did, but - by the time I had looked up to see
Whoever it was had gone - so we went and had tea
Smiling at each other over our eggs and sausage links
That knowing look we each had filled with those winks.
