Bang the Drum Slowly



Drums are a key to rhythm

For little music has a system

Without a driving beat behind

That gives the melody time



And so we honor all the drummers

Who've given us those numbers

The 2-4, the 3-4, the 4-4, the 5-4 ...

And all those mixes played evermore



Without whose talent we could not

Have all of the music we've now got

For so very much of it all relies ...

On the beat of the skins, by and by
