An icy cold chill in the night air ...

A three-quarter moon shining up there
Pretty Chistmas lights blinking on and off ...
Folks in stores dealing with their winter coughs

The short week between the two year-end holidays
Lots of folks going around and around in a daze ...
Turning corners, winding up on wrong side of road
Passing trucks and cars on country roads in the snow

Minds are in other places than where they should be
People making last minute plans for New Year's Eve
Through it all ... we see a turn into a new century ...
For the last year of this one begins in day yet-to-be

For this is the last eve of the one before the lead-in
And in a just a few hours from now ... we'll be greeting
Friends with well-wishes and kisses at the bewitching hour
Then ... arm-in-arm, we'll be singing Auld Lang Syne with power

Warming our hearts, as, outside, the icy cold chill in the air ...
Will have frozen all our worries, as we look forward with care
And resolve to make the coming year the very best we can ...
Knowing deep down in our hearts ... all it takes is a good plan
