Loving Without Apology

Intense desire comes from a part
Of ourselves which we see as heart
But it is a feeling below this organ
Which stirs us and makes us run

Sometimes it sends us into arms
Of someone who's given us charm
Other times it sends us well away
Because of pain which makes us pay

In ways we find uncomfortable to be
Because we didn't trust or really see
The person we had entrusted love to
Because we chose not to talk it thru

And then we make the decision to run
Instead of really talking about the fun
Which we shared over many months
In which we loved so easily, at once

Being so comfortable with each other
Sadness was completely lost under covers
As we cavorted, and played with our love
And felt so high, we shone from above

As the beams and twinkles shone from eyes
And we forgot who we were under the disguise
As we loved so freely and without any constraint
The wonder we were - paired with no complaint

And then things happened which stopped us in tracks
For some of them befuddled us so, we faded to black
And then we forgot the awe which made us stride so
Because of the weariness we felt as we hit pillows

And so we took command in a way which pained
The other one who shared our heart without stain
And in a single beat - indicated it was all a guise
For we could not go on with it - what a surprise!

And then LOVE - which had been so bandied about
Became something else - and not any joyous shout
And so we inflicted mortal pain on a heart so true
Which now realizes there'll no longer be me and you
