It is one of those really ironic things

Spending several weeks preparing to sing
As you stuff your turkey on a Thursday morn
Preparing potatoes and onions to adorn

So you collect all of the necessary items
The vegetables, oil, spices, foil, roasting pan - then
You make that one last trip to the store
Only to find out they have no more

"There were twenty-five hundred here ...
... now they're all gone, but have no fear
... we'll honor your 'free turkey' coupon ...
... as long as you get a rain-check done ...

On your way out please, for we're closing"
... Now there's just a lot of supposing ...
Had I gotten the bird first before the other
Could I have found the room under freezer cover?

Or would I have just wasted a good bird sooner
By attempts to deal with it before this nooner?
Perhaps, had I bravely taken that very same chance ...
Then, at least, I wouldn't be turkey-less at the dance
